Important update regarding our Jesmond Branch

The Hunter United branch located in the Jesmond Shopping Centre has been closed since the 23rd March 2020 to provide the flexibility needed for staffing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the 5-year period prior to March, customer activity at our Jesmond branch had already dropped by 50%.

As a result of the global pandemic we have seen customer usage increase for digital payment platforms including internet banking, mobile banking, and real time Osko® payments. Osko, in particular, has been very popular with our members, with a 40% increase in use since the beginning of 2020. All indications are that this trend will continue in the longer term.

With our members increasingly turning towards digital banking services and the convenience of our Broadmeadow branch, located at 130 Lambton Road, we will not be renewing the Jesmond lease when it comes due in December 2020. Please be assured there will be no job losses as a result of this decision.

We understand we have members who prefer to bank in person and be assisted by our friendly staff. To continue to provide this support, we are planning an expansion at our Broadmeadow branch in 2021, with the continued convenience of our drive-thru ATMS and off-street parking.

Q2 2021 will also mark the introduction of some exciting new products for members such as:

• Mobile payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay™, Samsung Pay™, Garmin Pay™, Fitbit Pay™)
• After hours customer support line
• Term deposits up to 5 years
• Fixed rate home loans up to 5 years

• Dedicated youth accounts

• Business banking lending and deposits
• Merchant POS facilities

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience the Jesmond branch decision may cause our members and trust that the alternative methods of banking and other branch locations available continue to meet member’s needs.

All other branch locations will be returning to pre-COVID weekday operating hours of 9.00am-5.00pm, from Monday 30th November, 2020, with the exception of Tuesdays when all branches will open at 9.30am to allow for weekly staff training sessions.
